As a young boy, Brendon's first
interests for music were kindled by his father and uncle: two brothers
that played together in their own band as young men. Still pulling
out the old acoustics whenever the party at home gets out of had (which
is surprisingly often!) the Sole brothers still crank up the volume,
and with teeth bared and veins bulging they display that unwavering
passion and flair that they are so well loved for. Dave & John have
an enthusiasm and charisma that is second to none. It was these two
that showed Brendon the power and magic that can be enjoyed through
the simple pleasures of good live music.
At 16, on a skiing holiday in Austria, Brendon
was inspired by a fantastic lead guitarist thrashing away at the
Dire Straits and Rock'n'Roll numbers at all the raucous après
ski festivities. His memories of these evenings have inspired him
through many frustrating practice sessions, and Sultans of Swing
and numerous other challenges have subsequently been conquered (much
to his own surprise!)
Caz comes from a musical family but more
on the classical side, with flute lessons and choir practices, orchestras
and music camps. She didn't hesitate at the thought of singing modern
pop and Rock 'n' Roll with her newfound boyfriend at university.
In fact it probably suits her character a little better with that
mane of red hair! Her dad, though himself not a huge fan of "modern
thump", still glows with pride to see his little girl up on
stage!
In Cape Town during their university years, many
raucous evenings were spent down at Quay Four at the Waterfront watching
their favourite soloist, François. He had a way of making
those tricky numbers look so easy and was a great contact for Rockafella as they got their band started
up, helping them with many ideas and useful links to get going.
We look forward to returning all these favours by
ourselves being an inspiration to somebody else one day.

With the hope of spending some time playing
on cruise ships and abroad, Bren and Caz have a dream to return
home to Southern Africa. Their home country Zimbabwe is in a bad
way and South Africa is speculated to deteriorate, but amongst the
chaos and destruction, there is a way of life and a natural beauty
that means so much to those who know it. There is a treasure of
musical talent and opportunity that has barely been touched. Brendon,
a sound and recording engineer, wants to set up his own
audiovisual company and continue to do sound and audio for the film
and TV industries. Where he can. he would love to work with bands and encourage the
musical talent that so seldom gets the chance, and to work on projects
for films & documentaries. There is also a distinct
lack of live bands to cater for weddings and private functions in Zim,
and they look forward to bringing home the joys
that come hand in hand with great live music.
